The question is how to determine whether or not your Persian Rug is authentic (or not), preferably before you purchase it. An authentic Persian Rug is hand-made. This means that no part of the rug has ever touched a machine and that each fiber has been woven or knotted by a human hand.

The best place to start when attempting to determine authenticity is the back of the rug. The first thing you should notice is that the pattern of the carpet is clearly visible from the back. Look for imperfections- these are reassuring. Machine-made rugs tend to look like a prefect grid on the bottom whereas hand-made rugs may have slightly crooked rows of knots or frayed ends. Another likely clue is the tassels; if they’ve been glued on, it’s a fake rug. If they are a natural extension of the weaving, then it’s much more likely to be authentic. Finally, when folding the rug back on itself, check to be sure you can see the knots. If you cannot see them, move on and don’t waste your money.

Next, try testing the stiffness of the rug by folding the rug back on itself. If it tries to hold the crease you just made, it’s fake. A real Persian rug is supple and always lays flat again, even after being rolled or bent. Beware the rug that holds a crease and is difficult to bend or doesn’t crackle when you fold it.

Another clue of a Persian rug’s authenticity is the density of the fibers or how soft the carpet is. As mentioned above, Persian carpets are extremely supple and the texture is very, very thick. Try pressing your finger into the rug. If you can touch the back of the carpet easily, through the fibers, it’s a bad sign.

Beware of dealers attempting to sell you a carpet at a bargain price. Persian carpets are very, very expensive because they take many months, even years, to make.

An “authentic” carpet that only costs 0 is too good to be true! Keep in mind that Persian Rugs are not made from synthetic fibers. They are always made from natural fibers. While it is possible to find Persian Rugs that are not made from wool, these are rare.

Generally speaking, the rugs are made from high-quality wool with a linen or wool woven backing. The price of the carpet needs to reflect the time and effort put into its creation, as well as the exotic nature of its fibers.

Ultimately, trust your instincts, not the carpet dealer. If the carpet looks too perfect, you can’t find the knots or the texture is too stiff, don’t buy it. Remember that you are purchasing a unique, one of a kind piece of art when you buy a Persian Rug. You owe it to yourself to take your time and get the real thing!

These rugs are probably the most well known rugs in the world. There have been numerous legends and stories about these rugs. In the olden days every Kings court was adorned with these rugs. Why? Simply because they are the most well designed, exquisitely crafted rugs known to man.

Weavers and Origins

The region of Kirman, in Persia is an isolated region and comprises of Kirman and a few surrounding villages. This is a bare, isolated region, but the people here sure do know how to put their hands to good use. The most celebrated artists and weavers of the Kirman rugs come from this region.

Antique Persian Kirman rugs also bear the signature of the weavers on them sometimes. These signatures range from elaborate to discreet, depending on the personality of the weaver. This is how the works of master weavers are often identified and are sold for high prices. A few master weavers who did sign their work include Kerman, the Castelli brothers and Dilmaghani.

These rugs are often sold for astronomical prices to private collectors. In fact, one such case happened in London, in the year 1999. In an auction, a Persian Kirman rug was sold for the hammer price of (hold your breath for this one!) 50,000 pounds! Thats right; such was the exquisite detailing and art work of the rug.

What To Expect

Persian Kirman rugs are extremely beautiful and are woven with intense care. In fact, tightly woven rugs often have great detailing and artwork on them. Most weavers prefer to produce Persian miniature paintings. Of course, Kirman rugs have been made for a very, very long time, but today, they are made mainly to suit the private tastes of American and European collectors. You can find such a selection of exquisitely crafted rugs of the finest quality at Doris Leslie Blau, in New York. This store not only sells Persian Kirman rugs, but also rugs of many different varieties. If youre looking to do up your home with rugs and carpets, then this is the store to visit!

Kirman rugs are basically floral in their designs. Carpets and rugs often appear to be woven on red backgrounds, which, on closer inspection are often revealed to be self coloured. The main reason for this illusion is the destiny of red designs.

Along with flowers, one often finds animals and humans depicted on these rugs; in fact, the Tree of Life has also been seen in many cases. This is simply because, with time, many subtle changes have been incorporated into the design to accommodate the preference of Western buyers. If youre looking to re do your house, then please do buy an antique Persian Kirman rug, it will make a world of difference!

Various techniques of Persian Rug repair are indispensable to maintain the timeless charm and beauty of the antique Rugs. Oriental carpet creation is a form of an ancient art. People started practicing this art during that part of the history which doesn’t have any relation with the contemporary Western world. Carpet creation is a kind of hand weaving art.

This art requires the people to carefully and patiently tie every knot without any mistakes. Depending on the kind of design which has to be weaved, the artists press down each row with the help of a metal comb. Every new row is built over the row which has been built previously. By making use of this technique to develop the Persian Rugs, the required patterns or designs can be developed in an impressively beautiful manner. Oriental carpet is made up of webs of wool which holds in itself a timeless charm and beauty.

The Persian rugs have to be maintained and preserved carefully. Some people are unaware of the importance of hand made rugs as well as the methods which have to be used to preserve them. The negligent attitude of the people towards the maintenance of their Old Persian rugs may result in their deterioration. People should be made aware of the various methods which can be used to take care of the old and antique rugs.

The various steps which can be used for Oriental Rug repair are as under:-

* One of the most important techniques which fall under the category of Rug repair is to clean the rugs. When a person walks over a dirty rug, the wool fibres get damaged. The Persian carpet may get damaged early if the wool fibers present in it start undergoing deterioration. * Rugs should be washed with hands in order to increase the life of these rugs. Hand washing can be used to enhance various features of the Persian rugs. When subjected to hand wash, the wool becomes softer and the colors of the rugs become brighter. * Once the Persian rugs are washed manually, the rugs should be spread out. After carrying out this task, a soft horse tail brush and a natural soap should be used to wash thoroughly both the sides of the rug which has been spread out. * Cold distill or reverse osmosis water should be used to rinse the rugs. After rinsing these rugs thoroughly, they should be soaked in a tub full of water for a short period of time. Once this step gets over, the rugs should be rinsed again using cold distill or reverse osmosis water. The water might have to be changed regularly depending on the amount of dirt present in a Persian rug.

Once all the steps involved in Persian rug repair have been performed properly, your rugs will regain their original charm and beauty.

The expression Oriental rug refers to rugs hand produced from the Asian continent together with Iran (Persia), Turkey, Afghanistan, China, India, Pakistan, Mongolia, Nepal, Kirgizitan and also Uzbekistan. Even though a Persian rug is definitely an oriental rug, not all Oriental rugs are Persian.

The Persian rugs have already been considered the leaders inside planet of carpets and weaving for 1000s of many years and that is why the majority of people go for them to this age on account of their designs and excellent.

One crucial level to note though is the fact that while the vast majority of the Persian rugs are of substantial excellent and handmade, you will find fakes that may perhaps selection from mediocre to poor in high quality specially people which might be machine manufactured.

I’m certain that when you make a decision to obtain a Persian rug you would wish to possess the ideal in excellent, I have some guiding ideas you will find helpful.

a) When purchasing a Persian rug, it really is critical to offer only having a respected seller. You might be incredibly vulnerable to fakes and bad superior rugs should you choose to head to ?out of business? deals.

b) Keep away from obtaining Persian rugs from travelling auctions; they are identified for being outlets for rejected goods. Deal with immediate importers of handmade rugs.

c) Choose a Persian rug that is aesthetically satisfying to you personally, which is in color, pattern and all round look and feel. Test the dimension for being convinced it is actually correct and that the dimensions will not be off-beat. They may not always be conventional in dimensions since they are handmade however , you should really be ready to inform what rug is proportional.

d) Slight inconsistencies inside rug could possibly be thought to be an ideal imperfection, evidence that the Oriental rug is genuine and hand knotted or wove. Given that most conventional looms employed are made of wood, their reaction to cold, dry and moist problems will cause it to warp as a result the resulting irregularities.

e) Make certain that the content employed for making rug ought to be all-natural elements these as cotton, wool, goat hair and silk.

f) Examine the knots per square inch (KPSI) detail. This can largely count within the place the rug was created, the design plus the attribute of your town along with the region.

g) Lastly, get time for you to look at the back again facet on the rug and make sure that the pattern is very crystal clear along with the knots distinguishable. The knots will not likely be as typical or grid-like if Persian rug is handmade.

The floor of your home says a lot about your style and personality. It’s the first thing that people see when they enter and they’re constantly reminded of it since they’re standing on it. A lot of homeowners opt to go with hardwood floors these days and, indeed, these can be quite lovely…but they are hard, therefore the name. Sadly, carpets are known for attracting huge amounts of dust and other undesirables, so they’re not always an option. Have no fear; a wonderful balance can be achieved by using rugs or, more specifically, oriental rugs.

Oriental rugs are hand-woven pieces, made from wool, silk or cotton, and created in what would be considered one of the Eastern countries. The major producers of oriental rugs are Iran, China, Afghanistan, Turkey, Pakistan and India. Although sold there, genuine oriental rugs are not woven in the United States. Instead, ‘oriental design’ rugs are manufactured using machines. Perhaps the most famous examples of authentic oriental rugs are Persian rugs.

Let’s get this straight from the start. A Persian rug is an example of an oriental rug, but not all oriental rugs are necessarily Persian rugs. A Persian rug is defined as one which was specifically woven in present-day Iran. These rugs are beautifully designed and have become a major source of income for many Iranians as the worldwide demand continues to grow.

However, the greatest demand is not for contemporary pieces but rather for antiques. Antique Persian rugs are typically over 100 years old and, as such, originated from the former Persian Empire. They are categorized mainly on the basis of their designs. Basically, the name says it all. Flower rugs will feature flowered patterns, and animal rugs have animals on them. Antique Persian rugs are very distinctive and offer a striking balance of color and elegance.

They can cost quite a bit, though, depending on the age and the intricacy of the design. On the other hand, antique Persian rugs are, of course, long-lasting. They’ve made it past a hundred years so I doubt very much that they won’t last the duration of your lifetime. Antique Persian rugs are therefore an excellent choice if you’re looking for something that you want to keep for a long time, or that you’d like to pass down through the generations. In other words, they’re a great investment and they look good too. Antique Persian rugs can enhance the d?cor of any living space for years to come.

Hand woven Persian rugs are among the most well-known and recognizable products from the Persian culture. They have an ancient history and remain a very treasured form of art. There are three main types of Persian rugs, Qalicheh, Farsh, and Kilim. Generally, Farsh, otherwise known as Q?lii, are rugs measuring more than 4X6 feet, Q?licheh measure 6X4ft or smaller, while Kilim are simply flat rugs anciently crafted by the nomads.

Within these types of Persian rugs lies many subtypes named after the regions or cities in which they were originally made. Persian rug dealers have developed over 30 classifications of the different subtypes based on the design, fabric used, and the weaving technique employed.

Q?licheh and Farsh Persian rugs are mostly made of wool today, but it is not uncommon to find some made of silk or cotton, with silk rugs being the least durable but most expensive. Silk rugs are often used as wall displays. These rugs employ a very wide range of designs but fall under three basic layouts: central medallion, all-over, and one-sided. The conventional Persian rug designs may be arithmetical, and may include striped patterns or arabesque (paisley and spiral patterns).

Some notable ancient motifs include Islamic buildings, historic monuments, tree patterns, vase patterns, European flower patterns, hunting ground patterns, tribal patterns, and intertwined fish patterns. Further, these rugs can be made using different types of knots. For instance, the asymmetrical Persian knot is famously used in India, Iran, Pakistan, Egypt, Turkey, and China while its symmetrical counterpart is synonymous with the Caucasus, East Turkmenistan, Turkey, and some Kurdish and Turkish parts of Iran. There are other less-commonly used knot types such as the jufti and Spanish knots.

The third types of Persian rugs — the Kilim — are different from the others in that they are either rough or flatly woven and have no pile. These rugs mostly feature a geometrical design with the weft strands (mostly of wool) running horizontally to make the design and color of the rug while the vertical warp strands are mostly hidden and are made of cotton, wool, or hemp. Depending on how these rugs are made, they can be used as horse saddles, prayer rugs, or for carrying clothware.

Persian Rugs have been admired for their beauty and intricacy for thousands of years. The rich colors, delightful designs and plush texture have inspired collectors for generations. Unfortunately, the same can be said for an army of fake dealers.

Another likely clue is the tassels; if they?ve been glued on, it?s a fake rug. If they are a natural extension of the weaving, then it?s much more likely to be authentic. Finally, when folding the rug back on itself, check to be sure you can see the knots. If you cannot see them, move on and don?t waste your money.

Next, try testing the stiffness of the rug by folding the rug back on itself. If it tries to hold the crease you just made, it?s fake. A real Persian rug is supple and always lays flat again, even after being rolled or bent. Beware the rug that holds a crease and is difficult to bend or doesn?t crackle when you fold it.

Another clue of a Persian rug?s authenticity is the density of the fibers or how soft the carpet is. As mentioned above, Persian carpets are extremely supple and the texture is very, very thick. Try pressing your finger into the rug. If you can touch the back of the carpet easily, through the fibers, it?s a bad sign.

Beware of dealers attempting to sell you a carpet at a bargain price. Persian carpets are very, very expensive because they take many months, even years, to make. An ?authentic? carpet that only costs 0 is too good to be true!

If the carpet looks too perfect, you can?t find the knots or the texture is too stiff, don?t buy it. Remember that you are purchasing a unique, one of a kind piece of art when you buy a Persian Rug. You owe it to yourself to take your time and get the real thing!

Whether you are referring to a silk Persian rug or cotton Persian rug, they may still hold the same amount of value. This is because there are a few different factors that affect the overall value of a Persian rug, and which you are going to want to be aware of before heading out to buy your own.

The Value of a Handmade Persian Rug

One of the most obvious aspects that make a handmade Persian rug valuable is the wool used to create it. The more valuable the wool and the better condition it is in, the more valuable the rug itself will be. This is why if you do ever purchase an antique or otherwise valuable Persian rug, you are going to want to make sure that you keep it in mint condition if you want it to retain its value years down the road.

Another factor affecting the value of a handmade Persian rug is its age. The older a rug typically the more valuable it is, however this is not always the case. Rug prices vary depending on the age, and make sure that you do not get a chemically washed rug. This is a process that some dealers use to make their rugs look more aged, so you will need to watch out for this.

You should also find out where exactly the rug was made if you want to know the value of the handmade Persian rug, and so that you know, it is believed that the best quality is hand knotted in Iran. This is because the Persian knot is different from that of the carpets that are made in Iran, and the quality of wool is also different. It is for these reasons that the price of a real Persian rug made in Iran is actually much higher than that of an Indian copy.

These helpful tips will make sure that you have the most success when you are shopping for a handmade Persian rug, and ensure that you do not end up getting tricked into buying a rug that is less valuable than you thought.

First and foremost, you always need to check the seller from whom you are considering buying a rug, and ask around to your friends and family members to see what their opinions are and where they have gone to purchase rugs in the past. Always do your background on a seller before buying from them.
